First as a guitarist in the group <span style=""><span style="font-weight: bold;">Claude et ses Tribuns</span>, then for acts such as <span style="font-weight: bold;">Annie Cordy </span>and <span style="font-weight: bold;">France Gall.</span> However not content with being behind the scenes, he embarked upon a solo career circa '66 with his premier and most sought after EP, <span style="font-style: italic;">LSD et Système D </span>- one of t</span><span style="">he most swingly awesome odes to the drug. Not content with one dedication to cultural phenomena, he also debuted with another ode to the heroes of the modern age - Gadgets! Writing with his partner Joe Galigan, he released at least two further EP's before the dec</span><span style="">ade closed,<span style="font-style: italic;"> Je Fais La La La</span>, and <span style="font-style: italic;">Un Trou Dans Ma Chaussure</span>, a cover of the group <span style="font-weight: bold;">Traffic's </span><span style="font-style: italic;">Hole In My Shoe</span>. With <span style="font-style: italic;">Un Trou... </span>Mr Ken broke out to experiment with more eastern sounds, while <span style="font-style: italic;">Je Fais... </span>concentrated on more established freakbeatisms - all with great results! After these he embarked upon a career in musicals, initally with a role in the French production of <span style="font-weight: bold;">Hair </span>plus <span style="font-weight: bold;">Jesus Christ Superstar </span>and <span style="font-weight: bold;">Mayflower</span>. He is also notable for creating the character of Ziggy in one of the first rock operas, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Starmania. </span>After that he a pop duo in 1981 by the name of <span style="font-weight: bold;">Chargrin D'Amour. </span>Finally he branched out into the commercial jingle genre from 1991 - till his death from cancer in 1996. The resulting mix has produced a vast array of genres over the decades, but the one concerning this post, is the one by the name of<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Aranjman</span>, or literally "Arrangement". This genre was a dominant force in the Turkish music in the 60's, 70's and early 80's before it fell temporally out of favour and is basically the interpreation of foreign pop songs (mainly French, English, Spanish and Italian) into Turkish by homegrown artists, albeit sometime with traditional flair. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Fecri Ebcioğlu'</span>s version of French singer <span style="font-weight: bold;">Bob Azza's</span><span style="font-style: italic;"> C'est écrit Dance le Ciel </span>in 1961 is generally regarded as the first instance of this, and was so popular that a craze was born and so subsequently many artists joined the frame with their own slants on their westernly neighbours hits. The main propenent of these was blonde beauty<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Ajda Pekkan</span>, who continued to have a long and popular career - but the focus this month is on a lass who goes by the name of Zümrüt. Recording a slew of singles and an album in the late 60's and early 70's she is the more poppier of the recording artists, and whose covering reportoire includes<span style="font-weight: bold;"> The Beatles, Sandie Shaw, Ray Charles, Sylvie Vartan</span>, and US girl group<span style="font-weight: bold;"> The Toys</span>. So not too bad a starting point eh! I've managed to collate most of her output from various Turkish forums, but improved the sound quality to make the listening experience a bit more pleasant! The full rundown goes as follows ::<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">1. Zümrüt - Anya Manya Kumpanya<br />2. Zümrüt - Aşk Sönmesin (Long Live Love)<br />3. The fusion of the Turkish and Latin rhythms work very nicely indeed! Cover wise her take on <span style="font-weight: bold;">Sandie Shaw's</span> <span style="font-style: italic;">Long Live Love</span> is very worthy, but close enough to the original that it sounds like it uses the same backing track! <span style="font-style: italic;">A Hard Day's Night</span> gets more of a makeover, and stands up pretty well too. Music show <span style="font-weight: bold;">Hullaballoo</span> was her home, and where she made her name. However, Lada first came to prominence at the young age of 13 when she starred on Broadway in the role of Penelope Ann in <span style="font-weight: bold;">Bye Bye Birdie</span>. As a result she scored a record deal with <span style="font-weight: bold;">Chancellor</span> records, releasing the cut <span style="font-weight: bold;">Foxy/The Answer</span> in 1961. Foxy was also recorded by labelmate claudine Clark for her album, Party Lights. Giver her tender age, Lada gives a surprsingly raucaus and forward performance. Later in 1962 came her second record, now recording under her new alias of Lada Edmund Jr., with the release <span style="font-weight: bold;">I Want A Man/This Time, </span>this time on the Roulette label. And again a record that sounds quite charged for its time. Written by. After a gap of 4 years, Lada's third single was released on the . Now an established dancer on Hullaballo she adopts a softer tone of voice of this release. Lada was also given the chance to perform I Know Somthing on the show, as you can see below in the clip! Next came what is now considered a classic Northern soul staple, <span style="font-weight: bold;">The LaRue</span>. Backed with<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Soul a Go Go</span> it was released in 1966 on Decca, and after a listen, theres is no wonder why it is held in such high regard. The last release came the following, the brilliant <span style="font-weight: bold;">Trouble</span>, a release which combines intense production, snappy lyrics and Lada's trademark flirtatious lilt to great effect. You can find all of these records apart from Soul a Go Go in the download below - you can preview the best on the relevant links too! For more on Lada's career and recent happenings please check her great site out, with some lovely pictures and information <a href="http://www.ladastedmund.com/">here </a>which I very much urge everyone to check out. What marked this boy out from the rest of the flock was his family musical legacy, his father <span style="font-weight: bold;">Jacques Ysaye</span> was an established orchestra conductor, while his grandpa was <span style="font-weight: bold;">Eugene Ysaye</span>, famous in his homeland and beyond as a composer and violinist. Obviously some of this talent rubbed off on Christian and so! at the tender age of 8 and a half the newly baptised Kiki embarked upon his musical adventure with his first record in 1965 under the direction of his dad. Employing his pysdeoneum of<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Jack Say</span>, Jacques wrote, produced and over saw most of his son's records - all though Kiki did have a hand in penning his own songs - natch! This first record in question was the release <span style="font-style: italic;">"C'est Parti Mon Kiki"</span> on the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Palette </span>record label. Even at this age Kiki's boundless joie de vivre comes though - singing with a playful maturity beyond his years. On the EP release is the amazing <span style="font-style: italic;">"Vive Les Chansons Yé-Yé"</span> which by its very name could be the theme of the whole genre and was one of the songs written by the man himself. Moving on to 1967 came perhaps Kiki's recording opus with the amazing Bond-inspired<span style="font-style: italic;"> "L'Agent Secret"</span> - perhaps one of the finest examples of it's kind! Ok, now to 1968, a bumber year which saw the release of Kiki's last four EPs; <span style="font-style: italic;">“La légende du petit sapin", "Kiki Va Piano" </span>and <span style="font-style: italic;">‘Kiki à l’opéra."</span> More amazing Yé-yé goodness is thus released to the world! Highlights from these include<span style="font-style: italic;"> Les Grenouilles</span>,<span style="font-style: italic;"> L'Affreux Jojo</span> and the fuzz/recorder fest of <span style="font-style: italic;">Je Serai Musicien</span>. Along the way these records were also compiled onto not one but too long players! After his final release Christian retreated from the studio to concentrate on his studies - however it wasn't too long before returned, this time as a drummer of the group<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Blue Rock</span> in 1974 at the age of 17, until 1977. Sadly no further info on Christian is available - but his cousin <span style="font-weight: bold;">Marc Ysaye</span> acheived some success as a drummer with the rock group <span style="font-weight: bold;">Machiavel</span> - talented family indeed! Now onto what you can hear of this talented youngster - in the ink provided I have compiled the best cuts from each EP, which is practically all of them! Sadly I don't have his last record just yet, but I imangine it's just as great!<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbO2Anu1JxkCmUkPh8KwO3vAtzw2dtlhRcPnXsd6Qzrxn-fdCocslW7HoIq-pjhmkGTYbA9QNHxPz8-BWprILIEzjoyVmDPXnlckRe9Odvjnre4R22xYdIHRN0bX6dZ2FHJbdG6sYmbqP0/s1600/Kiki+2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 199px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbO2Anu1JxkCmUkPh8KwO3vAtzw2dtlhRcPnXsd6Qzrxn-fdCocslW7HoIq-pjhmkGTYbA9QNHxPz8-BWprILIEzjoyVmDPXnlckRe9Odvjnre4R22xYdIHRN0bX6dZ2FHJbdG6sYmbqP0/s400/Kiki+2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457488885545484962" border="0" /></a><a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/373109050/Kiki.zip"><br /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:180%;"><a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://rapidshare.com/files/373109050/Kiki.zip">♪♫♪ JE SERAI KIKI!!! ♪♫♪</a><br /></span></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1BEiJoFZFYpAL_iR_ormE4X3KRcMgn7NF7S42EBge-bJkq49rQsNRfEp_uGLby_exE2ySnP1cyjFvypjZh55vQvTptTl-3tpj_xDMfR7Mg6hm5p5WGEk6sxHfd0HGVbOfOgxKdJEFbAlV/s1600/Kiki+1.jpg"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span><br /></a>cinnamonKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04888408362838644069noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4119020530270387109.post-86592135786260116542010-03-04T08:04:00.000-08:002010-03-04T10:19:09.641-08:00Lorena Midi - Beat Ragazza<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP47ptR0S-FgTMUIh2TB-rn2Tuw8vJ1ZmsJSR-sijeDfh83NugsRX9_QX4FLcPCrtL3EaG95tZmerzy8V7ZPCWTcq-9viqfcoydHaFBUHaINj5Zxl662C0LqOPK_FcUJ_BHOmTnATcHYB2/s1600-h/Lorena+Midi+-+Un+Poco+Piu%27+D%27Amore.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 220px; height: 218px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP47ptR0S-FgTMUIh2TB-rn2Tuw8vJ1ZmsJSR-sijeDfh83NugsRX9_QX4FLcPCrtL3EaG95tZmerzy8V7ZPCWTcq-9viqfcoydHaFBUHaINj5Zxl662C0LqOPK_FcUJ_BHOmTnATcHYB2/s320/Lorena+Midi+-+Un+Poco+Piu%27+D%27Amore.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444832999998993298" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Despite being the boot shaped land of the emotional ballad, Italy had more than its fair share of ladies who took up the beat craze when it hit their country's shores. One of these who embraced a more upbeat sensibility was a lady by the name of <span style="font-weight: bold;">Lorena Midi</span>. She released at least 4 singles on the small <span style="font-weight: bold;">America Records</span> label sometime in the late sixtees and in quite quick succession judging by the release numbers. Her first was also the initial release from the label,<span style="font-style: italic;"> Questa e L'Ultima Volta/Dici Sempre No </span>followed by<span style="font-style: italic;"> C'e Tanto Sole/Non Chiedermi Di Lasciarti</span>. Whether or not any more followed is a question of mystery to me! The initial attraction of Lorena are not what's on the record, but what it is encased in. What a brilliant cover sleeve eh! Pop-art perfection, and what's quite neat too is how she recycled the theme for other singles - staying true to art form! Alas what is on the disc perhaps does not match what the cover might suggest. Production is sparse by Italian standards and the lass is certainly no<span style="font-weight: bold;"> </span><a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.readysteadygirls.eu/#/brunetta/4525094980">Brunetta</a>, or even<span style="font-weight: bold;"> </span><a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.readysteadygirls.eu/#/caterina-caselli/4523196547">Caterina Caselli</a> - but she does possess a certain charm all her own. The understated beauty and charm of this lovely lass is completely captavating - and then we get to her voice! Along with original works, she covered artists such as <span style="font-weight: bold;">Marianne Faithfull, Francoise Hardy, Jacques Brel, Joni Mitchell</span>...and <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Kinks</span>! In fact her covers of Francoise come close if not on par with the original versions. Sadly Anki passed away in 2007 but here she is in 1965 performing the traditonal folk song <span style="font-weight: bold;">Barbara Allen</span> - hope you fall in love as much as I did!<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rcIdz_4VNWM&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rcIdz_4VNWM&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>cinnamonKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04888408362838644069noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4119020530270387109.post-73669216696383756222010-02-11T16:36:00.000-08:002010-02-17T07:08:28.559-08:00Way Fun Bantams!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-EBnj7i53bJCvQ1ImnTGsmu7_XeooP1hn1PnzgNmSKAHOioUZhmJRCfTimJdPKGKo7BAPE4RG-u1Ug7mYGRHEyvh8EIApTKd00aiMxnr6szzXTWHVBG4Hw-OGj3FLQTi8luL_zBfIMl5a/s1600-h/Bantams.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 294px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-EBnj7i53bJCvQ1ImnTGsmu7_XeooP1hn1PnzgNmSKAHOioUZhmJRCfTimJdPKGKo7BAPE4RG-u1Ug7mYGRHEyvh8EIApTKd00aiMxnr6szzXTWHVBG4Hw-OGj3FLQTi8luL_zBfIMl5a/s320/Bantams.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437158848558799250" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238);"><u><br /></u></span></div><div>Enough of the girls - here fantastically are 3 young lads who recorded under the name -<b> The Bantams</b>! In contrast to their full length album, entitled <b>Beware The Bantams,</b> the group are judging from my ears backed by a studio group instead of playing their own instruments - consisting of drums, guitar and bongos - and subsequently have a more polished sound - all for the better too! Here's a wee piece on them from a news article :</div><div><br /></div><div><i>"Beware The Bantams! Only one of them is named Fritz; the other two are Jeff and Mike - all part of one family. Jeff, Mike and Fritz have three more brothers and two sisters. One of the sisters has waist-length blond hair and she sometimes joins the group as their own bam-bam Wa-Wa-Watasui dancer. Adpoting the moniker of <b>Les Intrigantes</b> they practised hard, eventually gainging a contract in <b>Drummonville</b> and eventually<b> Saint-Hyacinthe</b> under the management of one <b>Roger Beaudet</b> to play at youth venues. Next came a chance to record their first record in 1965, the release <i>"Faut Savoir/Sans Toi</i> on the Jeunesse Franco label. Both sides were written by Beaudet. This release was the first and only time the girls were featured playing their instruments on a recording. Sadly despite the quality of the recording it sank without a trace! However come Autumn they were playing at the Hotel Club YeYe. Their next release came the following year, another Beaudet composition, "<i>Mets Chinois</i>" and cover of <b>Simon and Garfunkel's</b> <i>"Sound of Silence" (La Seul Du Soleil)</i> - again the record failed to garner much attention, allthough the group did get the chance to film a perfomance of the song for a Tv show. 1967 proved a fruitfull year for live perfomance,</div><div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixbc5GAAagzOVJpR4JCVYH6e93SG4QQU1qURh2HX12Ub5IGFBPs9GTAsIj_-xDAnOgS5WeJqXK-1r3N2FWfzZikALLy0C8pquFZRovrUbRkdjybivRMt1bJuSyBP_rleqBlr7mfvPT4QAL/s320/untitled.bmp" style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5425159311260637234" /><div> including a tour with groups and artists such as <b>Les Lutins, Les Merseys, Chantal Pary, Karo</b> and <b>Oliver Despax</b>. Come December not one but two singles were released by the group for the masses to enjoy. The first on the A1 label was a cover of <b>Jefferson Airplane's </b><i>White Rabbit (La Justice)</i>, adapted by member Carole, while the flip was a cover of <b>The Mamas and Papa's</b> <i>"Creeque Alley"</i>, translated into French as <i>"Nous Voci" </i>by manager, Beaudet. It similarly tells the tale of the groups unique formation! But however for some reasons unbenownest to moi, the group did not like the finished recording and the record was subsequently withdrawn from circulation. Luckily success did emerge with their other single released that month on the Jupiter label, a fantastic rendition of the <b>Beatle's</b> <i>"</i><i>Hello Goodbye"</i> along with a similarly brill version of <b>Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons</b> <i>"C'mon Marianne" (Je N'aimais Pas Marianne)</i>. The popularity of the record let to more touring and another release on Jupiter, a cover of <b>Boyce and Heart's</b> "<i>Goodbye Baby"</i> with "<i>Les Enfants De La Plage</i>" (a version of Peggy Lee's <i>"Til There Was You"</i>). The reocord acheived some success too, proving especially popular on some radio stations. Sadly despite having their most successful year to date, the group had disbanded by the end of 1968. However their legacy has not been forgotten, and I can present to you the entire recorded output of these lovely pioneering ladies from the land of Quebec! Also posted below this here text is a video, lovingly made by some I assume is known to the group, featuring live footage and photographic images of the group to their biggest hit, Hello Goodbye.</div><div><br /></div><div><div><br /></div><div><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/elFG0SEPd3U&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/elFG0SEPd3U&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></div></div><div><br /></div><br /></div><div>Right to sum up included in the download are.......!</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Faut Savoir / Sans Toi (JF 4044)</div><div style="text-align: center;">Mets Chinois / Le Seuil du Soleil (CN 9013)</div><div style="text-align: center;">La justice / Nous Voici (A1 813)</div><div style="text-align: center;">Hello Goodbye / Je n'aimais pas Marianne (JP 1118)</div><div style="text-align: center;">Les enfants de la plage / Goodbye Baby (JP 1141)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;"><a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/298341677/Les_Intrigantes.zip">Les Intrigantes - Pour Toi!</a></span></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;"><b><br /></b></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div></div>cinnamonKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04888408362838644069noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4119020530270387109.post-5417426963512127922009-10-09T15:49:00.000-07:002009-10-09T19:12:08.625-07:00Gunilla Thorn - Sweden's Dark Bombshell<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkAOFX1-34MV8JoWsc2Fxo5nzCF8MphM7syRnBMTfQSSL1CDR8kPo199e43sScFzQZ5S09HtSBwrLMYhFgEbm_u5PQ4pW1NYPk6bnWxSxSZVpQuj2x8Ghpp6hUcRf7Z_M3GFTm9gUsYqJW/s1600-h/Image1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 185px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkAOFX1-34MV8JoWsc2Fxo5nzCF8MphM7syRnBMTfQSSL1CDR8kPo199e43sScFzQZ5S09HtSBwrLMYhFgEbm_u5PQ4pW1NYPk6bnWxSxSZVpQuj2x8Ghpp6hUcRf7Z_M3GFTm9gUsYqJW/s320/Image1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5390736716673069586" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I've been meaning to post this for a while, but as always there's not time like the present! What a joy! Here's a brief outline of what I have gathered! Gunilla was born on the 14th May in 1944 in <em style="font-weight: bold;">Malmö</em>, Sweden. Her first foray into recording was initiated by photographer and fellow Swede <span style="font-weight: bold;">Jan Olofsson</span>, who took her to London where she introduced and worked with the legendary Joe Meek in 1963. Here she recorded the single <span style="font-style: italic;">"Go On Then/Merry-go-round"</span> as well as (excitingly revealed) the unreleased<span style="font-style: italic;"> "He's Mine"</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">"We're Chasing </span><span style="font-style: italic;">Something In Another Way"</span> (I wonder if these were in the <span style="font-weight: bold;">"Tea Chest Tapes"</span>?). As expected of his character, Joe was quite an eccentric character for Gunilla to work with, including speeding up her recordings so much it destroyed some of them. Quite cooly too is the before he <span style="font-weight: bold;">Deep Purple </span>days, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Ri</span><span style="font-weight: bold;">chi</span><span style="font-weight: bold;">e Blackmore </span>was a session guitarist for Meek in <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Tornadoes</span>, and plays on the recording <span style="font-style: italic;">Go On Then</span>! Her time in London seems like a great experience, especially since she hob-nobbed with people such as <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Searchers</span>, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Screaming Lord Sutch</span> and later on <span style="font-weight: bold;">Jimi Hendrix!</span><br /><br />After her work with Joe Meek and The Tornadoes in England, Gunilla released a cover of<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Johnny Cash's</span> <span style="font-style: italic;">Walk the Line</span> in 1965 with Danish group <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Defenders</span>, and then another single in 1966 with another Danish group, <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Beethovens</span>. This recording (<span style="font-style: italic;">Our Love/Jealous Woman</span>) was Gunilla's finest recording moment, really showcasing her raw, ballsy vocals - defintely one of the best female garage releases from the sixties! During this time she toured extensively, taking in such countries such as Switzerland, England, Germany, Australia, America, Korea and the Netherlands - phew! This also included a stay in Vietnam in 1967-68 where she entertained the American troups, performing under the name<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Nilla</span>. Please check out this <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.allanfurtado.com/Newport6.html">website</a> - which has some amazing photos of Gunilla during her visit to Vietnam and more recent pic too! Another bout of touring, Gunilla revealed, included performing on a cruise ship to millionaries! The ship left Rotterdam and took in stops such as the Isle of Wight and more exoticly Bermuda and New York! After a brief partnership with <span style="font-weight: bold;">Sonny Guerrero </span>of folkgroup <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Immigrants</span>, Gunilla left the music biz in the 70's to begin her own business.<br /><br />It's fair to say Ms Thorn is one of the more provactive female singers, especially from Sweden, and her ballsy vocals more than much up to this image. If only she could have more opporunity to showcase them on record! Netherless Jealous Woman in particular packs a wallop few contempoaries can match - and would send any man fearing for his life on the receiving end of its lyricall tongue! .... So up for grabs is all of the three records she released during her career - six songs in total! These are as follows :<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Merry-go-round/Go On Then 1963 (HMV Pop 1239)</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">I Walk The Line/A Closer Walk With Thee 1965 (Sonet T 7199)</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Our Love/Jealous Woman 1966 (EMI X B47C)</span></div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center; font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-size:180%;"><a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/290902000/Gunilla_Thorn.zip">Get closer with Gunilla here!</a><br /></span><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQHL6uTZDDFIiooYT7z9OfW4XWQrL6BYIHbzMIbYIi8Q-_4wNy-heuCqA7JvqIJ1GHmVPAcfwQAVA0toYuGA134zONzg1Lbnwhsk3P0hwuMosTVfufsGSl9k66WBoq4MjXksCF0YmO66rY/s1600-h/1309734.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 170px; height: 168px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQHL6uTZDDFIiooYT7z9OfW4XWQrL6BYIHbzMIbYIi8Q-_4wNy-heuCqA7JvqIJ1GHmVPAcfwQAVA0toYuGA134zONzg1Lbnwhsk3P0hwuMosTVfufsGSl9k66WBoq4MjXksCF0YmO66rY/s320/1309734.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5390787982019427010" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN83s1mslEjpY2MMY8MNmtLnLEGj3wgr2yHSjRtx2WDw_Q0MS0wNLslXFLi0NYXK8_e_qD5S57-E_u2WeJ-X5FdJCfXtso7k9OprWDN2tfXDH8cgQGqboX2SWwHqphSuH462U3kfKcFjzx/s1600-h/1309731.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 171px; height: 170px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN83s1mslEjpY2MMY8MNmtLnLEGj3wgr2yHSjRtx2WDw_Q0MS0wNLslXFLi0NYXK8_e_qD5S57-E_u2WeJ-X5FdJCfXtso7k9OprWDN2tfXDH8cgQGqboX2SWwHqphSuH462U3kfKcFjzx/s320/1309731.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5390787801430709330" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div>cinnamonKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04888408362838644069noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4119020530270387109.post-41074928040775005512009-10-06T08:19:00.000-07:002009-10-06T08:46:52.952-07:00ZouZou on the box!<center><object width="340" height="285"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/o1wx6XplN0I&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/o1wx6XplN0I&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="340" height="285"></embed></object><br /><br />Just a quick post to rave about a couple of YouTube delights featuring the ultra fab <span style="font-weight: bold;">ZouZou</span> - both with the featuring the French lass performing the song <span class="description">'<span style="font-style: italic;">Il est parti comme il était venu.' </span>The (above) first is from <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Tom Jones Show</span>, and features the afformentioned ZouZou and Mr Jones wigging out to some go-go beats before ZouZou proceedes then to very cooly step over some placards and into her rendition of her recording. Excitingly this update we have some more sixties female rock'n'rollers to add to the rooster! As you can see from the picture sleeve above, <strong>The Chips</strong> were one with a definete penchant for geometrics! As well as the look, the group also had the crudentials according to the blurb on the back of the sleeve - and it goes something like this.....</div><div></div><div></div><br /><div><em>"The Chips are destined to be this country's next No.1 all-girl group. They're that good! So good, in fact, that one of their moee recent jobs was touring with the Paul Revere and the Raiders Show. From Chicago the Chips are Daren Pasterik, Sheri Hartman, Aleat Maciejewski, Klayre Hartmann and Charlotte O'Neill. While many all-female acts are thought of as a novelty, the Chips are far from that category. There are many top male groups whose members wish they could play and sing as well.</em></div><br /><div><em>When your'e finished listening to "Break It Gently," the group's first single for Phillips, we're certain you'll agree that the Chips are one of the top acts in the record business-fellows included!"</em></div></div><div></div><p align="right"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFsKrARo4UMBMGmAdMZSKJO205gTqEsqrDLH1BHpbLT73WU4Tko8cczEDc4TPL2125M5V_fn05x3hIWvh651LZHMcxllR-NXqsFIQtRuo7NP0hWG6EUXqinmFTlqs4U2Q4XL7vpZG8PIVH/s1600-h/Chips+-+Ad+-+Dec+66.gif"></a></p><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixEWgSVZnalLpM4y8h11uDwlXBu1VJG_U8yLW6dDba5TFGxphdWo_lBPrGhmeabmrMqHcgPQQhx6DS0HmlBd2AaowM0yXfNeEXN3ODTiiIH7vWcbfQpJjGLtZ5GGFg6Flhl9w1J63-VI6G/s1600-h/ChipsAd_1968.gif"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5366816262717216434" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 195px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixEWgSVZnalLpM4y8h11uDwlXBu1VJG_U8yLW6dDba5TFGxphdWo_lBPrGhmeabmrMqHcgPQQhx6DS0HmlBd2AaowM0yXfNeEXN3ODTiiIH7vWcbfQpJjGLtZ5GGFg6Flhl9w1J63-VI6G/s200/ChipsAd_1968.gif" border="0" /></a>While perhaps not fufilling the destiny as heralded by the <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR2Ki7xHHWqflbW2JYb-_nADRbYyUGrDr8yWZ46NIoSkITXvMMpBf1Sr0eqb3ZxKsg8NIzZW4uiAh7ZlkgE3PbFeDubzOZh3qxXk0Qq8O6cUYIsBk3aDsOGJruqKA1AlQj2x_VyB1DimkT/s1600-h/Chips+-+Ad+-+Dec+66.gif"></a>label, the group did manage to release another single on<strong> ABC Paramount</strong> and do some extensive touring nationwide. The exact fate of the group is a mystery, but I'm guessing they parted ways at some point along the way! They were hoever formed in Chicago as early as 1966 and lasted till 1968/69, when the singles were released. Chicago itself did seem to produce it's fair share of female groups, most famously <strong>The Daughters of Eve</strong> and also <strong>The Marie-Antoinettes</strong>. More importantly how do they sound?????? Well a bit of a mix really! Lead single <em>"Break It Gently"</em> is fair enough, think mid-tempo girl group soul. However the cover of <strong>Patty and The Emblems</strong> "<em>Mixed Up Shook Up Girl"</em> is much more successful. Their second single for ABC Paramount is a tale of two stories too! <em>"When You Hold Me Baby,"</em> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgButQ4RVsDHiGFEOeZCuFjug7_RMBHVapYz-Up9vKVtoMpn0hdppWgEZk9yZtA2PuuE6_50i9hn_m3nJEdALbHShUbgjXYVmnkQGrZph74Ok6Ya_hGpYaOrWdJsarWMM7OCFWTck4aQQrR/s1600-h/Chips+-+Ad+-+Dec+66.gif"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5366816122483580450" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 168px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgButQ4RVsDHiGFEOeZCuFjug7_RMBHVapYz-Up9vKVtoMpn0hdppWgEZk9yZtA2PuuE6_50i9hn_m3nJEdALbHShUbgjXYVmnkQGrZph74Ok6Ya_hGpYaOrWdJsarWMM7OCFWTck4aQQrR/s200/Chips+-+Ad+-+Dec+66.gif" border="0" /></a>written by band member <strong>Sheri Hartman</strong>, is garage soul crossover with in the lead singer in growling fine form - certainly their best recording. Much has been written on the lass allready so I'll keep it short but sweet! A great place to start is the entry on the amazing <a href="http://www.readysteadygirls.eu/#/beryl-marsden/4522352354"><strong>ReadySteadyGirls</strong></a> website. Essential reading too is Beryl's own biog at the<strong> </strong><a href="http://www.triumphpc.com/mersey-beat/a-z/berylmarsden.shtml"><strong>Merseybeat</strong> </a>website - fascinating stuff! Sorry (yet again) for abstaining from posting on this dear blog/graveyard/wasteland......but!....I have returned (for now) and with something I hope you will all enjoy. Continuing with child singing sensations comes the complete pre-puberty releases of the very talented Mark Radice. The son of record producer Gene Radice, Mark shone from a very early age in the studio - writing over 50 of his own compositions by the age of 11. His first release came at the age of 10 with <span style="font-weight: bold;">Wooden Girl/Save Your Money </span>in 1967<span style="font-weight: bold;">, </span>then <span style="font-weight: bold;">Natural Morning/You Took the Words Right Out of My Life</span> in 1968, followed by <span style="font-weight: bold;">10,000 Year Old Blues/Three Cheers (For the Sad Man) </span>in the same year. Finally came <span style="font-weight: bold;">Richest Man In the World/Girl By The Meter</span> in '69, which was the last single before his self-titled debut album in 1971. In addition to both singing and writing the releases - he also<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/3162/markradicediscoi00002a.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 217px; height: 212px;" src="http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/3162/markradicediscoi00002a.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a> played a part in producing and arranging the records too - nice! After allowing these recordings flow down your ear canals, I'm sure you'll agree with me on what a superb talent Mark was and indeed still is! Mr Radice grew up to become a successful songwriter (including a variety of numbers for Sesame Street - wahey!) and his official site is <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://markradice.150m.com/">here</a> for much more information and a full discog. I've also split it into two parts as my connection aint what it used to be!<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:180%;" ><br /></span><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:180%;" ><a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/239021080/Mark_Radice_Part_1.zip">Mark One!</a></span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:180%;" ><br /></span><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:180%;" ><a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/239026592/Mark_Radice_Part_2.zip">Mark Two!</a></span><br /></div></div><br /><br /></div>cinnamonKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04888408362838644069noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4119020530270387109.post-89909460572290730192008-10-19T05:32:00.000-07:002008-10-19T08:05:00.262-07:00The Swiss Yé-Yé of Josiane Rey!<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjAXsgX584YCJvdOPEQriGj9QWrJhLAxNg7apDJ8FT481f4z9bbWkPB7t2apQR9f2_CeB2cuTI8hFCmbje1BZfIKUbHq_wxc0yvXYZ13Fb_oMDgulyXmb5HVZUN0QixZMi96CjwrgLYqyT/s1600-h/Josiane+Rey+-+Un+Medaillon.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258850625530245330" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjAXsgX584YCJvdOPEQriGj9QWrJhLAxNg7apDJ8FT481f4z9bbWkPB7t2apQR9f2_CeB2cuTI8hFCmbje1BZfIKUbHq_wxc0yvXYZ13Fb_oMDgulyXmb5HVZUN0QixZMi96CjwrgLYqyT/s320/Josiane+Rey+-+Un+Medaillon.jpg" border="0" /></a> <div>Time for another French (or French speaking to be exact) maiden to grace these humble pages - and the honour this week goes to a Swiss belle by the name of <strong>Josiane Rey</strong>! Mlle. Rey is an elusive character to track down, however what is known is that she released 3 EP's and one single on the Swiss <strong>Arpege</strong> label circa 1967. Her recordings range from the swinging homage to aeronautics <strong>(En Jet)</strong> to the Cossack inspired <strong>Casatchok de la Volga</strong> to dulcet ballad of <strong>Reste Dans Mo Coeur.</strong> Other highlights include the fab <strong>Notre Amour A Dormi Tout Un Hiver</strong> and the ace <strong>Elapostrofaemo-uere</strong>. Hailing from the<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Arlington Heights</span> area in Illinois, they managed to record at least one single at the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Valentine Studios</span> in California, the release <span style="font-style: italic;">Sunshine, Flowers and Rain/If You Love Me, Really Love Me</span>. Members included <span style="font-weight: bold;">Judy Selman</span> (lead gt.),<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Debbie Reiss</span> (rhythm gtr.), <span style="font-weight: bold;">Vicki Selman</span> (bass gtr.) , <span style="font-weight: bold;">Donna Smelak</span> (drums) and <span style="font-weight: bold;">Vicki Hubly</span> (lead singer). The group toured several towns in their homestate, and various venues in Chicago, including <span style="font-weight: bold;">The New Place, The Crimson Cougar</span>, and the<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Dark Spot</span> while sharing the bill with bands such as <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Cryin' Shames </span>and <span style="font-weight: bold;">Michael and the Messengers</span>. Other outfits included pink 'poor' sweaters and maroon skirts. A newspaper article from the time explains that the girls were not allowed to pratice during the week, but their parents do not object alltogether as they see it as an overall postive experience for them. While not performing the girls enjoyed ordinary teenage activities including listening to records, going to dances and talking on the phone in-between doing homework.<br /><br />While not anything spectacular, they're still another fascinating entry in the annals of 60's female bands! Apologies for a lack of updates - in a bit of a transitory situation - but expect more soon! In the mean time I had to post this vid of a 15 yeard old Romina Power performing her second single from 1965, <span style="font-style:italic;">Apri Quell'ombrello</span> - What a great a song! Dig those shapes she throws as well - too cool - and quite refreshing from what the standard of Italia's female singers! <br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SPSqXjjB2NM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SPSqXjjB2NM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>cinnamonKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04888408362838644069noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4119020530270387109.post-58950872278737830792008-06-28T13:57:00.000-07:002008-06-28T14:08:49.933-07:00The Linda Gayle Collection<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFCGmnOSDw4oi9n0aklKBTek-qeZNE3tonKXfDHWbPsEJTXTXRqhN4o4R7bmdb0osIxiPqidXZKYtIW2IBI-grGN5XI2ANtmkNSKUItb6nJuL2SCTXRp2s1Z_2oEmKsTvMjP_fAAL-Mphj/s1600-h/LINDA_G.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFCGmnOSDw4oi9n0aklKBTek-qeZNE3tonKXfDHWbPsEJTXTXRqhN4o4R7bmdb0osIxiPqidXZKYtIW2IBI-grGN5XI2ANtmkNSKUItb6nJuL2SCTXRp2s1Z_2oEmKsTvMjP_fAAL-Mphj/s320/LINDA_G.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217039847882907330" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkgRIFSjGFEcNJFcEaTVvcR0KPGG06RndZz8Zfa-w59MMHi0yryyAlDy-6R2SmRW9ZZEBc9I6KEx-aZmOkc_OxzBToZ2PmcSvOpAm8nHjgB90VQhm8Epf59EFNMUX3aqGAleVUltdT4j6B/s1600-h/Linda+Gayle.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkgRIFSjGFEcNJFcEaTVvcR0KPGG06RndZz8Zfa-w59MMHi0yryyAlDy-6R2SmRW9ZZEBc9I6KEx-aZmOkc_OxzBToZ2PmcSvOpAm8nHjgB90VQhm8Epf59EFNMUX3aqGAleVUltdT4j6B/s320/Linda+Gayle.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217040311543173234" border="0" /></a><br />One of the most intruiging and stand out of all the artists featured on the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Girls in the Garage</span> series, certainly one of the most racaus was a certain Linda Gayle....so naturally I had to dig deeper! Information, certainly in-depth information, on Ms Gayle is sadly none too forth coming - however I have mananged to collate a number of singles from her career during the 60's and now two fab videos of Linda herself have surfaced on YouTube - woop!<br /><br />The two songs featured on GITG, <span style="font-style: italic;">Maggie's Farm</span> and<span style="font-style: italic;"> I've Got My Mojo Working</span>, are the strongest faire, Stop, however another two singles,<span style="font-style: italic;"> Stop, Look, Listen/Goodnight Irene</span>, and<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWjMAxc0sqf5TZfGKEip-tRtD8K45FLuDcmd9H78bqMtiIYTBPIIqw6WxRA47OLJwug7xMeUisdE4Ny1h-nfZ8ymeK2Gp1Gxf-9Z7_N6UyZXKTEzyyS0sXYxQGc_WU_9vB383tkR9tLzeE/s1600-h/7b50_1.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWjMAxc0sqf5TZfGKEip-tRtD8K45FLuDcmd9H78bqMtiIYTBPIIqw6WxRA47OLJwug7xMeUisdE4Ny1h-nfZ8ymeK2Gp1Gxf-9Z7_N6UyZXKTEzyyS0sXYxQGc_WU_9vB383tkR9tLzeE/s320/7b50_1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217040768960736162" border="0" /></a> <span style="font-style: italic;">Where Have You Been/Twist </span>and Shout feat. the Duke of Coventry are certainly top pickings too. Her other records took a more mellow, slightly country pace - suiting the tone of her voice perhaps, and are well worth a listen too.
